Siliguri city submerged in water, assurance comes from Mayor to improve drainage system

Siliguri, 31st August: Siliguri got submerged in water due to incessant rainfall on Tuesday night. Due to this the people of the city are experiencing a lot of trouble. Many areas including College Para, Hakim Para, Bidhan Road, Hyder Para, Shaktigarh, Milanpally, Debashish Colony, and Rabindranagar were submerged due to the rain. The shops were also flooded in many places. People expressed anguish about the drainage system of the city. Not only this, but many people were also seen expressing their anger on social media as people faced numerous water clogging problems due to rain.


In this regard, Mayor Goutam Deb said that on Tuesday the Deputy Mayor and Chairperson were on the streets. The city witnessed heavy rains continuously for two days. He also assured the people, that the construction work of a big high drain is going on.

At the same time, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar said that the employees of the municipal corporation and borough committees worked all night to tackle the situation. Due to the cleaning of the drains, the water level has gone down rapidly.
