Siliguri, 01st September: The administration has stepped up measures to monitor rising prices of essential commodities and vegetables in Siliguri. A meeting of the Special Task Force was held at the Circuit House on Tuesday under the chairmanship of DCP East Zone Rana Mukherjee.
Representatives of the Siliguri raw material market, Regulated Market and retail market traders’ committee attended the meeting. DCP Rana Mukherjee directed traders to prominently display the purchase and selling prices of essential commodities and vegetables at their shops from September 3.
He said black marketing and arbitrary price hikes would not be tolerated. The Special Task Force will regularly monitor prices in different markets and conduct surprise inspections to check for irregularities.
DCP Rana Mukherjee said the Special Task Force was formed on the state government’s instructions to monitor and control the prices of essential commodities. ACP Robin Thapa, ACP Farukh Mohammad Chowdhury and representatives of the business community were also present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, members of the Siliguri Town Station retail traders’ committee said they had been instructed during the meeting to display the prices of goods at their shops. They said the matter would be discussed further with members of the committee.
