Siliguri, 29th September: In a joint operation by the Special Operation Group and the Anti-Crime Wing of New Jalpaiguri Police Station, around 700 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the Kawakhali-Porajhar area. Two youths from Malda were arrested in connection with the seizure.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanaul Sheikh and Mohammad Rashidul Haque.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted in the Kawakhali-Porajhar area on Monday night. During the operation, police detained two youths who were allegedly moving around suspiciously and conducted a search.
During the search, a large quantity of brown sugar was recovered from a bag carried by the two youths. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a market value of around Rs 15 lakh.
Police sources said the two arrested youths had allegedly travelled to Siliguri from Malda carrying the drugs. They were allegedly planning to deliver the narcotics in Siliguri. Police suspect that the duo was working as carriers for the main drug operators. Cash and two mobile phones were also seized from the arrested youths during the operation.
The two accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday. Police are investigating the case.
