Fulbari, 28th June: Several lock gates of the Mahananda Barrage at Fulbari were opened on Sunday after the water level rose significantly due to continuous rainfall in the hills and plains of North Bengal over the past few days.
A large volume of water was seen flowing through the opened lock gates as the river swelled following heavy overnight rainfall.
The Meteorological Department had earlier forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of North Bengal. In line with the forecast, intense rain lashed both the hills and the plains throughout Saturday night, leading to a sharp rise in the water level at the Mahananda Barrage.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation and keeping a watch on the water level to prevent any untoward incidents.
