Seven laborers on way to Cooch Behar intercepted by Rajganj police

Rajganj, 26th April: Seven laborers, who were crossing the Rajganj area on bicycles in an attempt to return to their homes in Cooch Behar amid the ongoing lockdown, were intercepted by the police. They were then asked to take a different route to reach Cooch Behar.

When intercepted by police, the laborers stated that they were residents of Cooch Behar and went to Nadia district around two months ago. After the nation-wide lockdown was imposed, they could not return home. They maintained that they were struggling each day to cope up with the fight against the pandemic and were facing a shortage of food. However, they somehow managed to buy bicycles with the money sent to them by their family members and decided to travel back home.

Budaru Barman, a laborer, stated that they left Nadia, on Thursday late night and crossed around 500-kilometer distance without being intercepted by anyone. He further stated that the Rajganj police, however, blocked their way and asked them to take another route.
