Scorching heat during monsoon leaves Siliguri residents distressed; temperature reaches 35°C

Siliguri, 04th July: Despite the ongoing monsoon season, there has been no sign of rain in Siliguri, with residents continuing to struggle under intense heat and humidity. While the calendar indicates the peak monsoon period, the weather in the city has remained unusually hot and dry.

Traditionally, the month of ‘Ashadh’ is associated with regular rainfall, but over the past two days, Siliguri has been experiencing weather conditions more typical of the pre-monsoon summer months.

The scorching sun from the early hours of the day has made outdoor movement difficult for residents. According to the weather department, the maximum temperature in Siliguri reached 35°C on Friday.

Busy areas such as Hill Cart Road, Sevoke Road and Bidhan Road witnessed significantly lower footfall between 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM, as many people preferred to remain indoors to avoid the extreme heat.

Those who ventured outside for work and other necessities were seen struggling with the high temperatures. Despite using umbrellas and sunglasses, many residents appeared uncomfortable due to the intense heat and humidity.

Overall, the unusual spell of hot and humid weather during the monsoon season has caused considerable discomfort among residents across Siliguri.
