Siliguri, 18th September: Tension arose in Salugara area after a scooty rider died on spot upon being hit by a bus. Following the incident, the angry mob set the bus on fire. The deceased has been identified as Sachin Chettri, a resident of Sevoke Market area. The bus driver has been arrested in regard to this incident.
According to locals, a passenger bus heading from Sikkim to Siliguri, rammed into a scooty near Salugara due to which the rider died on the spot. After this, the agitated mob ransacked the bus and set it on fire.
On the other hand, as soon as the news of the incident was received, a huge police corps and fire department of Bhaktinagar police station reached the spot. Along with this, ADCP Purnima Sherpa also reached the spot. The fire was brought under control by the efforts of the firefighters.
Meanwhile, due to the incident, a huge traffic congestion was seen in the area for a long time. Later the police recovered the bus and brought the matter under control. Police are probing the whole matter.
