Rajganj, 29th September: ‘Sarathi’ bicycle distribution programme commenced in Rajganj on Tuesday, with bicycles being distributed to standard IX students to support their commute to school.
The programme was organised at the Rajganj Block Office hall under the initiative of the block administration. During the event, bicycles were symbolically handed over to 10 standard IX students from different schools.
District Magistrate Aditi Chaudhary, Rajganj MLA Dinesh Sarkar, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee, School Project Officer Purba Sherpa, Rajganj Panchayat Samiti Sabhapati Monika Adhikari, Saha-Sabhapati Nitai Mandal and Rajganj BDO Suvankar Das were among those present, along with other administrative officials and public representatives.
According to the administration, bicycles were handed over to a few students symbolically on Tuesday. Other eligible students covered under the scheme will receive bicycles in phases.
MLA Dinesh Sarkar said the quality of the bicycles has improved and that they are more durable than before. He said the bicycles would benefit students who travel long distances to attend school and could also help improve regular school attendance.
