Bagdogra, 29th September: A drug peddler was arrested while allegedly arriving to deliver narcotics near Bagdogra, while a couple was also arrested in connection with the incident.
Acting on a tip-off, the Special Operation Group of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Bagdogra Police conducted a raid in the Kestopur area near Bagdogra. Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested while they were allegedly involved in a drug exchange.
According to police, Tarapada Mondal had travelled to Bagdogra from Kaliachak in Malda carrying brown sugar. A couple from Naxalbari had allegedly arrived in a car to collect the drugs.
The arrested couple has been identified as Mohammad Anisul and his wife, Saigam Khatun.
Police recovered a total of 292 grams of brown sugar and Rs 1.40 lakh in cash from the accused. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrested individuals were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday.
