Siliguri, 29th September: The Enforcement Branch conducted a raid at Sejal Enterprise in the Nehru Road area of Siliguri’s Naya Bazar after receiving a complaint over the alleged duplication of a well-known brand on Monday.
During the raid, the team recovered several sacks of rice bearing the name and logo of the well-known brand. According to information received, the brand had lodged a complaint regarding the duplication. Based on the complaint, the Enforcement Branch took action at Sejal Enterprises in Naya Bazar’s Nehru Road area in Siliguri.
After learning about the Enforcement Branch operation, journalists from the city reached the spot to gather news. However, shop owner Bishnu Bansal and his son Vivek Bansal allegedly started pushing and assaulting the journalists. Some journalists also reportedly sustained injuries during the incident.
The journalists subsequently lodged a written complaint at Siliguri Police Station. Based on the complaint, Siliguri Police arrested shop owner Bishnu Bansal and his son Vivek Bansal.
Police produced both before the Siliguri court on Tuesday. After lengthy arguments in court, the judge rejected the bail pleas of Bishnu Bansal and Vivek Bansal in connection with the attack on journalists who went to gather news.
The court directed that both accused be sent to judicial custody for two days. The court also directed the police to submit a report related to the incident on 1st October, when the next hearing in the case has also been scheduled. Police are investigating the entire matter.
