Siliguri, 27th February: A land port has been built on a 9-acre land in Sahudangi. However, as the port has not yet received its commercial permit, the inauguration of North Bengal’s first Inland Container Depot has not yet been done.
During a press conference, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Chairman Sanjit Saha stated that around 1500 raw agricultural commodities (RAC) would be imported and 800 RAC will be exported once the said land port gets inaugurated. He further stated that around 23 lakh 46 thousand rupees of the Railway department is being wasted on a regular basis. The Indian Railways has so far suffered a loss of more than 100 crores.
The matter has been reported to the Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and a letter has also been submitted to the Railway Minister. Also, the traders need not go to Kolkata for a fire safety system or fire permit. The deputy director’s office will start its operation at the Siliguri fire station from tomorrow with the help of CII and the state government.
