Residents stops ‘Pathashree Project’ in Dakshin Shantinagar area ahead of construction

Siliguri, 03rd April: Sensation prevailed in the area after the residents of the Dakshin Shantinagar area under Dabgram-Fulbari stopped the road work of the ‘Pathashree Project’ in the said area.

Reportedly, a JCB reached the said area for road work this morning. As soon as the excavation work commenced, a crowd of locals gathered. On hearing about the construction of 10 feet paved road, the local people expressed their anger. They alleged that the entire area gets waterlogged during the rainy season. Due to the lack of a drainage system, they have to face constant problems. They demanded the construction of a pitch road by arranging 20-foot drains on both sides of the road. On seeing the anger of the local people, the contractors fled away.

Meanwhile, while checking the construction work of the said road, it was found that repair of the kutcha road is sanctioned in the government account. Regarding this, the leader of the opposition party of Dabgram 2 Zone Ranjit Roy alleged that the said road is being built to campaign for votes. Making such allegations he further questioned how a kutcha road can be sanctioned for repair. He claimed that if the road is made of 10 feet, it will break after a few days. On the other hand, the local panchayat member Deepti Das abstained from giving any response on the said matter.
