Siliguri, 31st October: Pradhan Nagar Police have arrested a 22-year-old man accused of repeatedly raping his minor sister-in-law and leaving her pregnant. The accused is a resident of Alipurduar. The minor is reportedly around seven months pregnant.
According to police sources, the girl’s father lodged a written complaint against his son-in-law at Pradhan Nagar Police Station on 04th October. The complaint alleged that the accused repeatedly raped the minor while she was staying at her marital home. The family reportedly learnt about her pregnancy on 01st October, following which her father approached the police.
After receiving the complaint, police launched an investigation and found that the accused had allegedly gone into hiding. Police began searching for him and traced his movements using mobile tower location data. He was eventually arrested from Alipurduar on Friday night and brought to Siliguri.
Police have registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday. Further investigation is underway.
