Siliguri, 31st October: Minister Shankar Ghosh praised Durga Puja committees in Siliguri for refraining from using DJs during the festival and urged them to maintain the same awareness in the coming years. He also appealed to people to act responsibly and avoid using firecrackers that cause noise pollution during Kali Puja and Diwali.
On Saturday, the Himalayan Nature and Adventure Foundation submitted a memorandum to Minister Shankar Ghosh, raising several demands to control noise and air pollution during Kali Puja and Diwali. Members of the organisation also held a press conference on the issue.
The organisation called for the initiative taken by various Durga Puja committees to avoid DJ music to continue in the coming years. The minister thanked the committees for their cooperation and urged them to maintain the practice.
Shankar Ghosh said several guidelines had already been issued to regulate noisy firecrackers and stressed that everyone was responsible for following them. He appealed to people to refrain from using firecrackers that cause noise pollution during Diwali and warned that legal action would be taken against those who violate the rules.
