Residents of Rajganj join ‘Urs Utsav’ across Indo-Bangladesh border

Rajganj, 15th February: Residents of Rajganj today participated in the ‘Urs Utsav’ across the border. On Wednesday, the said festival was celebrated across the Indo-Bangladesh border in Jumma Gachh area of Sanyasikata gram panchayat of Rajganj block. Thousands of people participated in the fest organized at the dargah of Pir Baba Abul Rasheed.

The story of the ‘Urs Utsa’ dates back several years ago. Locals told that Abdul Rashid, a religious leader from Bangladesh had died at his relative’s house in Sannyasikata. As per his wish, he was buried at Zero Point on the border between the two countries. At that point of time, there was no barbed fence on the border and people would celebrate the Utsav every year on the special day of Phalguna month together. Later with the permission of the border guards, the Utsav started being celebrated despite being demarcated with the barbed wire fence. But due to the pandemic, the border was closed for two years.

This year marks the 34th Urs celebration of Hazrat Shah Sufi Abdul Rasheed. Hence, today, the border gate was opened for a specified period with tight security arrangements by the BSF. A large number of people reached Mazar Sharif from different places in Rajganj block.
