Siliguri, 28th September: A Rapido rider has been arrested by Bhakti Nagar police for allegedly attacking a passenger on the head with a key following a dispute over the cancellation of a ride. The incident reportedly took place while the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The arrested accused has been identified as 25-year-old Ujjwal Barui, a resident of Ward No. 41 near the ITI Road College in Baikunthapally under Bhaktinagar Police Station.
According to the complaint lodged by the mother of the injured youth, Rishabh Pal works at a garage on Eastern Bypass. On the night of September 26, after finishing work, Rishabh booked a Rapido ride to return home.
The Rapido rider, Ujjwal Barui, arrived at the location. It is alleged that Rishabh cancelled the ride after finding that the rider was under the influence of alcohol. A dispute reportedly followed, during which Ujjwal allegedly attacked Rishabh on the head with a key, leaving him injured.
After the incident, Rishabh’s family took him to a hospital for treatment. His mother subsequently lodged a complaint at Bhaktinagar Police Station.
During the investigation, police arrested Ujjwal Barui from the Baikunthapally area on the night of September 27, a day after the incident.
Police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
