Siliguri, 28th September: Khalpara Outpost Police have taken the minor boyfriend of a 16-year-old girl and two of her minor friends into safe custody in connection with her mysterious death.
The deceased has been identified as 16-year-old Mishtu Das, while her minor boyfriend has been identified as 17-year-old Shahid Alam alias Ayush. The police have also taken Mishtu’s two friends, Jahanara Khatun and Suman Khatun, into safe custody.
According to information, the minor girl was admitted to Siliguri District Hospital by her family members on Sunday night after she was found in mysterious circumstances at her home in the Palpara Adarsh Nagar area under Khalpara Outpost. After examination, doctors declared her dead.
Following the incident, Khalpara Outpost Police reached the hospital and sent the girl’s body to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination. After the post-mortem was completed on Monday, the body was handed over to her family.
The girl’s family subsequently lodged a written complaint at Khalpara Outpost regarding her death, following which police began an investigation.
During a search of the girl’s room, police recovered a note. According to police sources, the note mentions her boyfriend and contains details related to her situation.
Police sources said Jahanara Khatun and Suman Khatun had introduced Mishtu to Shahid Alam.
The three minors taken into safe custody were produced before the Darjeeling Juvenile Justice Board on Monday. Police are questioning them while investigating all aspects of the case.
