Racism-assault in Siliguri’s Beer Republic: Two arrested, owner Keerat Singh remains absconding

Siliguri, 09th August: An incident of racism and abuse has come to light which took place in the city’s one of the renowned pub Beer Republic in Matigara. It has been alleged that the owner of the pub along with the employees racially assaulted and abused a woman and her friends on the 04th of July.


The two women, residents of Dagapur visited the said pub in Matigara with their friends. Later the lady bouncer of the pub misbehaved with the woman’s sister and made racial remarks toward her. Upon standing up against the racist abuse a verbal spat arose between the lady bouncer and the woman.

During this, the woman alleged that Keerat Singh, the owner of the pub, came in and assaulted her. She further alleged in her social media handle that the male bouncers of the bar also joined in and attacked her two friends and her sister gravely injuring them. The alleged accused owner also went further and attacked her by choking her almost unconscious.


After this, both the women shared the entire incident on their social media handles. Within a short period, the post went viral. Later again it has been alleged that the owner of the pub Keerat Singh, started threatening them. In response to the threats made, the women lodged a written complaint in the Matigara police station on 07th of August. They went and met DCP Kunwar Bhushan Singh regarding the issue.

On receiving the news of the incident, Matigara police took action swiftly and arrested two pub employees, Tinku Rojasio (39) and Amit Kumar Singh (31). Reportedly the main accused the owner of the pub Keerat Singh is absconding since the incident. The police have conducted a search operation for him. The two accused were produced in the Siliguri court today.
