Siliguri, 23rd June: R. Vimala, Secretary of the North Bengal Development Department (NBDD), formally assumed charge as the Administrator of Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.
The development comes a day after the State Government’s Department of Municipal Affairs and Urban Development dissolved the municipal board of the corporation.
After taking charge, R. Vimala held meetings with officials and employees of the civic body. Discussions focused on monsoon preparedness and the delivery of civic services across the city.
Speaking on the occasion, she said priority would be given to key works during the monsoon season and that decisions would be taken in coordination with concerned officials to ensure smooth functioning of civic services.
Meanwhile, former BJP councillors of the dissolved municipal board also met the Administrator on Tuesday. They assured her of their full cooperation and highlighted several issues related to civic services and the current situation in various wards of the city.
Sources said matters concerning public grievances and ward-level issues were also brought to the Administrator’s attention during the meeting.
