Phansidewa, 11th February: In a significant breakthrough, six miscreants have been apprehended on charges of illegal sand extraction from the riverbed of the Chenga River in Phansidewa. The arrested accused have been identified as Khairul Sheikh, Kabil Sheikh, Nikhil Das, Shambhunath Pal, Afsar Ali, and Sirajul Haque, all residents of Uttar Dinajpur.
Acting on a tip-off, on Saturday night, the cops of Phansidewa Bidhannagar Investigation Center, retrieved a total of six sand-laden vehicles including a dumper and lorry during naka checking in Muraliganj in Phansidewa and apprehended the six miscreants, upon failure to provide valid documents.
On Sunday, all the accused were produced before the Siliguri Court. Currently, the police are engaged in further investigation.
