Siliguri, 13th June: As part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Siliguri’ campaign, Matigara Police organised a special awareness programme in Vishwas Colony, an area that residents have long alleged to be affected by drug-related activities.
According to locals, narcotic substances are openly bought and sold at several locations in the area. In response, police launched the awareness drive with the aim of eliminating the drug trade and encouraging public participation in the fight against substance abuse.
During the programme, police issued a dedicated helpline number. – 8597988002. Through the number, residents can report incidents related to the sale or consumption of narcotic substances.
Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept completely confidential and urged residents to share information without fear or hesitation.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, stating that such a campaign was needed for a long time to curb drug-related activities in Vishwas Colony.
BJP booth president Vijay Rawat said the drug trade was tarnishing the image of the locality and having a harmful impact on children and young people. He stressed the need for immediate action to stop such illegal activities.
Police officials said that the awareness campaign is currently underway, but warned that strict legal action would be taken in the coming days if drug-related activities continue despite repeated awareness efforts.
