Phansidewa, 02nd July: Police seized 20 cattle and arrested a driver in connection with illegal cattle smuggling at the Muraliganj check post in Phansidewa.
According to reports, a container truck travelling from Kolkata towards Siliguri was intercepted by police from the Bidhannagar Investigation Centre on National Highway 27 near Muraliganj entry point.
During inspection, the vehicle driver failed to produce valid documents, following which police rescued 20 cows from inside the container. The vehicle was also seized.
The driver of the container, identified as Puroshottam Kumar, was arrested in connection with the case. He was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday. Police have launched a further investigation into the matter.
