Phansidewa, 13th September: A BJP leader has been arrested on charges of alleged assault and extortion in Phansidewa. The arrested accused has been identified Niranjan Biswas, a member of the BJP district committee.
According to reports, footage showing the BJP leader allegedly behaving aggressively at a coal company in the Ambari area of Phansidewa on Friday night went viral on social media. It has been alleged that Biswas forcibly entered the company premises, verbally abused those present and threatened to shut down the company if money was not paid. He reportedly demanded extortion money.
Following the incident, Raja Kumar Jaiswal lodged a complaint at Phansidewa Police Station against Biswas.
Based on the complaint, police arrested the BJP leader. He was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday.
The allegations are under investigation.
