Plastic eggs being sold in Siliguri? SMC launches operation

Siliguri, 30th September: After speculations surfaced regarding the sale of plastic eggs in the markets, the officials of Siliguri Municipal Corporation launched an operation on Wednesday in this concern.


     

Reportedly, the officials of SMC’s food department raided the egg shops in Banglabazar under Bhaktinagar police station area as well as Siliguri’s Checkpost area. The eggs were heated to check whether there is any plastic coating on them. Several samples were also collected from the shops. On the other hand, during the raid, the officials seized plastic carry bags from several shops.


Ganesh Bhattacharya, Food Safety Officer of SMC, stated that they had been receiving complaints regarding the sale of plastic eggs near the Checkpost area. Based on the complaint, operations were launched and egg samples were collected. The samples will be sent to labs for proper verification.

Besides, traders have been instructed to take appropriate bill after purchasing the eggs.
