Pineapple farmers in Bidhannagar stare at big losses amid COVID-19 lockdown

Bidhannagar, 19th April: The pineapple farmers in Bidhannagar under Phansidewa block are facing severe economic challenges during the COVID-19 lockdown as they are being forced to sell their produce at a much lower price, leaving them with hardly any money to support their livelihoods.\

Pineapple growers Mohammad Asim Uddin, Mohammad Farjun and Kanu Dey stated that they generally sell their produce to the wholesalers, which is then sent to several states.

However, due to the lockdown, thousands of fruit perished in the last few weeks because there was no way the products could be sent to the nearest markets. They desperately sought help from the government to help them feed their families in such a crisis.
