Passengers struggle at N.B.S.T.C. Bus Stand in Siliguri: Fewer government buses, private buses double fare ahead of elections

Siliguri, 18th April: The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in West Bengal’s three districts is scheduled to commence on April 19. However, civilians are facing several issues at the N.B.S.T.C. Bus Stand in Siliguri Junction with fewer government buses and doubled fares of the private buses.


According to reports, the voting process in the Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar districts will take place on Friday. Amid the election preparations, voters face several issues at the N.B.S.T.C. Bus Stand. It has been reported that several government buses are being used for election-related work resulting in fewer buses and more passengers at the bus stand. Despite waiting in queue for hours, the passengers are unable to avail of bus tickets.

Furthermore, allegations are being raised against private buses of fare hike. Allegedly, the passengers must pay about double the amount to reach their destinations. Compounding the issue, passengers were forced to travel on the roof of the buses due to overcrowding.
