Parents sell infant for Rs 80,000 in Siliguri, investigation underway

Siliguri, 02nd February: A shocking incident surfaced where a couple allegedly sold off their newborn for Rs. 80,000. The incident surfaced from Siliguri’s DS Colony area under the jurisdiction of the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Police Station.

According to reports, the father sold the infant in Bihar through a broker. Meanwhile, a special team from the NJP police station apprehended the father and a broker before heading to Bihar. The infant is anticipated to be rescued and transported to Siliguri. However, the Siliguri police refrained from commenting on the case at the moment.

Earlier, a couple from the DS Colony had delivered a child at the Siliguri District Hospital on December 23. However, they did not wish to keep the newborn as they already had two children. As a result, the father contacted a broker and the infant was sold to another couple in Bihar for Rs. 80,000.

Significantly, the news spread in the area and was subsequently reported to the NJP police station. Subsequently, the police apprehended the accused father and initiated an interrogation. During the interrogation, the broker’s involvement surfaced and the police promptly apprehended the accused broker. As per the broker’s statement, the NJP police have departed for Bihar along with the accused for further investigation of the entire affair.
