One arrested with huge quantity of Burma teak woods worth 60 lakhs in Bagdogra

Bagdogra, 04th February: In a foiled attempt of trafficking, the Bagdogra Forest Department has successfully recovered a huge quantity of Burma teak wood from a truck and arrested a truck driver involved in the incident. The arrested driver has been identified as Wasim Khan, a resident of Haryana.


As per details received, acting on a tip-off, the Bagdogra Forest Department personnel halted a truck registered with an Assam license plate at the check post located on Phansidewa Canal Road. During the search, the officials recovered logs of valuable wood worth lakhs of rupees from the truck. Subsequently, the accused was arrested.

In this regard, Ranger Sonam Bhutia of Bagdogra Forest Department stated that the estimated value of the recovered teak wood is Rs 60 lakhs. The truck loaded with valuable logs of wood was heading towards Kolkata. He added that the driver failed to provide any valid documents for the recovered wood prompting the arrest. Currently, the Forest Department is engaged in further investigation of the entire incident.
