One arrested in Jalpaiguri on the charge of bison hunting

Jalpaiguri, 21st August: The Forest Department arrested a man, identified as Somra Munda, on the charge of bison hunting. Cooked as well as raw bison meat was recovered from his house.


Reportedly, a sniffer dog Orlando from Gorumara National Park was used to track the accused. The arrested individual was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Friday.

It is to be noted that the forest workers, on Wednesday afternoon, sighted the body of a bison in the Dhupjhora beat of Gorumara National Park. Apart from different body parts of the bison, its horn was also missing. After carrying out investigations with the help of the sniffer dog, the forest workers successfully nabbed the accused.


Janmanjay Pal, ADFO of the Gorumara Wildlife Department, stated that they recovered raw as well as cooked bison meat from the accused’s house. A search is being conducted to find the others involved in the incident.
