Newborn sold for Rs 80,000 in Siliguri rescued by police from Bihar

Siliguri, 03rd February: In recent developments, a newborn sold for Rs 80,000 in Siliguri was rescued by police from Bihar under the efficient efforts of the DCPO.


It has to be noted that, on December 23, a child was born to a couple of Siliguri’s DS Colony at the Siliguri District Hospital. The couple already had two children which prompted the child’s father to allegedly contact a broker and sell the newborn to another couple in Bihar for Rs 80,000.

Later, as the woman returned home, the neighbours informed the matter at the NJP police station. Based on the complaint of the DCPO of Jalpaiguri district, the police detained the child’s father. Subsequently, based on the father’s statement, police launched a raid and detained the broker. Following further interrogations, the police learned that the newborn was sold, which prompted their arrest. Subsequently, the police left for Bihar and rescued the newborn.


Meanwhile, the child’s mother stated at the NJP police station that the child had not been sold while claiming she fell ill after the child was born. She added that she sent her child to her relative’s place in Bihar. The woman further asserted that her husband had been implicated in a false case.

Currently, the newborn has been rescued and handed over to the CWC, while, the police are investigating the entire incident.
