Naxalbari, 10th September: Naxalbari Police intercepted and subsequently seized a sand-laden dumper at Panighata More in Naxalbari following allegations of illegal sand transportation from a river despite directives of the National Green Tribunal.
Police arrested the driver after he allegedly failed to produce the required documents for the sand. The accused has been identified as Masrikul Alam, a resident of Kishanganj in Bihar.
According to police, the dumper was intercepted while allegedly carrying sand for illegal transportation. Following the seizure, the driver was arrested in connection with the alleged illegal sand trade.
The accused was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday. Police sources said that such operations will continue to curb the illegal sand trade in the area.
