Siliguri, 30th June: A case of the mysterious death of a woman has come to light in Fulbari, following which NJP Police have arrested the deceased woman’s husband based on a complaint lodged by her family.
The deceased has been identified as Azmira Khatun, a resident of the Salbari area of Siliguri. According to reports, she died under suspicious circumstances nearly three years after her love marriage.
Family members have alleged that Azmira was subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband, Mustafa Ali, over various issues since their marriage. They further claimed that the alleged harassment had intensified over the past few months.
The family has alleged that Azmira was murdered by suffocation using a pillow and that her body was later hanged to make it appear otherwise.
Based on the family’s complaint, NJP Police initiated an investigation and, following preliminary inquiry, arrested the accused husband, Mustafa Ali.
The accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday. Police are currently awaiting the postmortem report, which is expected to determine the exact cause of death and help establish the circumstances surrounding the case.
