Muharram observed peacefully amidst tight security in Siliguri

Siliguri, 10th August: Muslims across Siliguri amidst tight security on Tuesday observed Muharram by taking out processions to mark the death of Martyr Hazrat Imam Hussain. The ceremonial mourning, which lasted till late at night in Karbala Masjid near Jhankar More, concluded peacefully. On the occasion of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the national flag was also included in the procession of Muharram along with the Tazias.


Meanwhile, to keep the city’s security under check amid the festival, a large police force was deployed in the area. Apart from this, the entire city was monitored through drones and CCTV cameras. Furthermore, to ensure the safety of women during Muharram, the women’s safety squad of Siliguri Metropolitan Police’s Winners team conducted route march.
