Rajganj, 27th September: The one-day day-night ‘MLA Cup 2026’ football tournament began at the grounds of Ambari-Falakata Chintamohan High School in Ambari, Rajganj, on Sunday, with 16 teams participating and football enthusiasts gathering at the venue from the morning.
The tournament has been organised under the initiative of Rajganj MLA Dinesh Sarkar. Rajganj Panchayat Samiti Sabhapati Monika Adhikari and Saha-Sabhapati Nitai Mandal formally inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp and taking the opening kick.
Among those present at the inauguration were Rajganj BDO Suvankar Das, Bhorer Alo Police Station OC Sudip Dutta, Ambari Range Officer Pukar Tamang, Binnaguri Gram Panchayat Pradhan Rohini Barman, Upa-Pradhan Pratima Singha Roy, and BJP district committee members Debasish Dey, Ajay Adhikari, Udaygiri Roy, Swagata Roy, Anwar Hussain and Tapas Sarkar, among others.
According to Nitai Mandal, 16 teams are participating in the day-night tournament. The matches are scheduled to continue late into the night and may continue until around 3 AM. Trophies along with cash prizes will be presented to the champion and runner-up teams.
Meanwhile, MLA Dinesh Sarkar, who is the main organiser of the tournament, could not attend the inauguration as he is currently in Kolkata for a scheduled programme. He has indicated that he will try to visit the venue later.
