Siliguri, 13th June: State Minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh visited the Siliguri Regulated Market on Saturday morning to assess various issues affecting traders and market operations.
During the visit, the minister toured different sections of the market and interacted with traders to hear their grievances firsthand.
Traders have long been facing problems including poor drainage, illegal encroachments, indiscriminate parking and traffic congestion within the market premises. In view of these complaints, Shankar Ghosh inspected the area along with concerned officials, market authorities and representatives of the trading community.
Following the inspection, the minister directed the market secretary to take immediate steps to address the issues. He stressed the need for a planned approach to resolve each problem in a phased manner.
Shankar Ghosh also warned that administrative action would be taken if there was negligence in addressing the issues and said action could be initiated against the secretary if required.
Several traders also took the opportunity to highlight their day-to-day difficulties before the minister, who assured them that efforts would be made to resolve the problems at the earliest.
