‘Mayor Ke Bolo’ programme cancelled following EC’s instruction

Siliguri, 20th April: The ‘Mayor Ke Bolo’ programme of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been cancelled following the instructions of the Election Commission (EC).

Notably, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA had raised questions regarding the organization of the programme despite the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections and alerted the EC.

According to reports, on Saturday, Mayor Gautam Deb started the program at 11 a.m. Subsequently, calls were allegedly received from several wards. However, after half an hour the EC urged the corporation to cancel the program. Significantly, the Mayor cancelled the programme shortly after the instruction.

In this regard, the Mayor Gautam Deb stated that the Election Commission was informed earlier that the ‘Mayor Ke Bolo’ program is a program of a Municipal Corporation and not a new event. He added that he would write a letter to the commission regarding the resumption of the programme after April 26.
