Siliguri, 22nd September: Matigara police have arrested two masons in connection with the theft of gold jewellery worth around ₹6 lakh. Police recovered the stolen jewellery within two hours of receiving the complaint.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ramkumar Barman (26) and Sachin Majhi (21).
According to police, Bimala Jha, who runs a tea shop at Matigara Market, had taken her gold jewellery to the shop on 22nd September as usual. Before returning home at night, she opened her bag and found the jewellery missing. The stolen items included two earrings, a pair of ear tops and a gold chain, with an estimated value of around ₹6 lakh.
After receiving the complaint on 23rd September, police began an investigation and detained two masons who were carrying out construction work behind the shop.
Following interrogation, police searched Sachin Majhi’s rented house in Matigara and recovered all the stolen jewellery. Both accused were subsequently arrested.
The two accused were produced before the court, and police have initiated further investigation into the case.
