Siliguri, 22nd September: A joint team of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Detective Department (DD) arrested a youth and recovered 265 grams of brown sugar during an operation in the Shiv Mandir area under Matigara police station.
The arrested accused has been identified as Tarikul Sheikh, a resident of Kaliachak in Malda district.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, the joint team conducted an operation in the Sardapally area of Shiv Mandir late Tuesday night. Tarikul Sheikh was detained after he was allegedly found standing in a suspicious manner. A search reportedly led to the recovery of 265 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
During the preliminary investigation, police learned that the accused had allegedly travelled to Siliguri from Malda carrying the brown sugar and was supposed to deliver it to someone in the city.
The DD registered a case against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace the alleged network linked to the seized contraband.
