Siliguri, 23rd September: Rain has been lashing Siliguri and several adjoining areas since Wednesday morning under the influence of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Intermittent showers throughout the morning have affected normal life, while concerns over waterlogging have emerged in several parts of the city.
Heavy rainfall has also been reported from the hills. With the possibility of rising water levels in hill rivers, authorities have stepped up monitoring of river conditions, particularly in low-lying areas.
The administration is keeping a close watch on possible waterlogging and any rise in river water levels. Officials from various departments have been instructed to monitor the situation, while disaster management teams and other concerned departments have been asked to remain alert to deal with any emergency situation.
Although heavy rain has been reported from the hill areas, there have been no reports of any fresh landslides so far.
With rainfall expected to increase further under the influence of the low-pressure system, people have been advised to remain cautious. The administration is maintaining particular vigilance in areas near hill rivers, low-lying zones and landslide-prone regions.
