Siliguri, 23rd September: SF Road is one of the busiest areas in Siliguri, with a large number of people and vehicles using the road every day. However, the occupation of designated roadside parking spaces by shops is creating difficulties for pedestrians and motorists.
Areas meant for vehicle parking are being occupied by shops, leaving pedestrians with little space to walk and forcing them to use the main road at times.
To control traffic congestion and ensure convenient movement for pedestrians, the administration and traffic police have conducted drives at different times to clear illegal encroachments from footpaths and roadsides. During such drives, shopkeepers have been removed, efforts have been made to clear roads and footpaths, and action has also been taken against illegal parking.
However, there are allegations that the old situation returns in several areas within a few days of such drives.
A similar situation is being seen along SF Road, where shops have come up in roadside spaces meant for public movement and vehicle parking. As a result, pedestrians are facing difficulties while navigating the busy stretch.
