Siliguri, 12th June: Police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating unemployed youths of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing jobs in Siliguri.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mithu Saha. He was nabbed by Medical Outpost police from the Pradhan Nagar area on Thursday night.
According to allegations, the accused had promised jobs such as sanitation staff positions at a medical college and collected large sums of money from several job aspirants. Victims claimed that he repeatedly took money but failed to provide any employment.
Police sources said that while verbal complaints had been coming in for a long time, action was taken after a written complaint was recently filed against him.
The accused was produced before the court on Friday. Police are currently investigating the entire matter to identify others involved in the alleged fraud network and to determine the total amount of money collected.
Officials also indicated that further arrests may follow once the investigation progresses.
