Siliguri, 04th July: Serious allegations have surfaced from Mahananda Para area of Ward No. 06 in Siliguri regarding underfilled LPG gas cylinders being supplied to consumers, triggering concern among local residents.
According to reports, suspicion arose when a gas delivery vehicle arrived at a house in the area. The family noticed irregularities in the cylinder and requested that it be weighed in front of the delivery staff. Upon checking, it was allegedly found that each cylinder had around 2 to 3 kilograms less gas than the prescribed quantity.
The complainant further claimed that when other filled cylinders in the vehicle were checked, around 6 to 7 cylinders were also found to be similarly underfilled by approximately 2 to 3 kilograms each.
Following the discovery, the matter was immediately reported to the police, and the issue was brought to public attention. The complainant stated that the complaint was raised to prevent common people from being cheated in a similar manner.
With LPG prices continuing to rise, concerns have been raised that underfilling cylinders could impose an additional financial burden on consumers. The complainant has demanded a fair investigation and strict action against those responsible.
Police later reached the spot, but by then the delivery vehicle had already left the area, leaving the cylinders behind. The police subsequently seized the cylinders for investigation purposes.
The complainant has stated that a written complaint will be submitted to the concerned gas distributor. Meanwhile, a worker associated with the delivery vehicle claimed that they collect cylinders directly from the godown and are unaware of any irregularities, adding that their role is only to deliver gas cylinders to households.
