Locals protested against appointment of outsiders for water project in Kharibari

Kharibari, 09th February: The locals of Chuchur Muchur village in the Thanjora area of Kharibari staged a protest against the appointment of outsiders rather than locals as temporary staff for the water supply project. Notably, under the Jal Jeevan Mission Project, a water project has been constructed in the said area.

According to reports, a pump house has been constructed on Line No. 3 of Thanjora Tea Estate, under the Jal Jeevan Mission Project of the Public Health Works Department. As a result, temporary employees have been appointed for the supply of water. Locals alleged that outsiders have been appointed as pump operators because of political influence. Following this, the locals have lodged a written complaint to the Pradhan regarding the entire matter.

In this regard, Buraganj Gram Panchayat Pradhan Anita Roy stated that the locals have made a complaint regarding the issue. Staff appointed to function the Jal Jeevan Mission are hired by an agency. However, there would be an investigation of the complaints of the locals.

Meanwhile, Karmaadhyaksh of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Kishori Mohan Singh stated that since the water project has been constructed on the land of the tea estate, the owners of the garden have made the decision. He added that the issue is not political.
