Locals demand new bridge over Talma River in Rajganj

Rajganj, 02nd December: A demand has been made for the immediate construction of a new bridge over the Talma River in the Sahebbari area of ​​Rajganj.


Reportedly, residents of several villages risk their lives every day to cross the iron bridge which is lying in a pitiful condition. It has been alleged that no action has been taken by the administration even after an inspection.

It has been learned that the iron bridge in the Shikarpur gram panchayat of Rajganj is around 25 years old. The iron poles of the bridge have been eroded and the railings are broken. Residents fear it could collapse at any moment.


Locals said that the block administration and the president of Jalpaiguri district-in-council are aware of the dilapidated condition of the bridge. Administrative officials have barricaded the road leading to the bridge. However, the residents of the area commute through the bridge risking their lives. So they demanded to repair the bridge immediately.
