Jharkhand truck driver stabbed to death in Siliguri, two arrested

Siliguri, 23rd April: Two men, identified as Krishna Barman (21) and Sujan Rai (24), charged with the murder of a Jharkhand truck driver, were arrested by the Bhaktinagar police last night. The arrested accused are residents of Cooch Behar and Sikkim respectively.

As per the report, the deceased driver Asgar Ansari (50), on April 10, left for Jharkhand along with some food items which he had collected from a godown in Siliguri’s Pradhan Nagar area. However, the vehicle allegedly lost its way and headed towards the seven-mile area.

Upon sighting a Sikkim truck on the road amid the lockdown period, Ansari went forward and asked the truck driver for directions.

It has been alleged that the Sikkim truck driver and the other two men with him were highly intoxicated due to which a simple query turned into a quarrel between both the parties and gradually escalated to a fight. In the course, the three men allegedly attacked Ansari on his head with an iron rod and further took out a sharp weapon and stabbed him to death.

Upon receiving the news, the Bhaktinagar police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to the hospital for an autopsy. After investigation, the police launched an operation at Prakash Nagar area on Wednesday night and arrested the two accused.

The arrested accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court today.
