Jewellery showroom robbery attempt foiled in Siliguri; two arrested

Siliguri, 30th June: Police in Siliguri foiled a major robbery attempt at a jewellery showroom on Sevoke Road on Monday night, taking advantage of heavy rainfall. Two accused involved in the plan have been arrested by Bhakti Nagar Police.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Gautam Kumar and Dharmendra Sahani, both residents of East Champaran district in Bihar. Jewellery items were reportedly recovered from their possession.

According to police sources, during heavy rain, two miscreants entered the jewellery showroom with the intention of committing robbery. However, their plan was foiled after the showroom’s CCTV motion alert system sent an alert to the owner’s mobile phone regarding suspicious activity.

The shop owner immediately informed Bhakti Nagar Police. A police team rushed to the spot, following which the accused tried to flee in different directions. Gautam Kumar was arrested from the Jyoti Nagar area, while Dharmendra Sahani was caught inside the showroom.

Police have also launched a search operation to trace a third absconding accused.

On Tuesday morning, Siliguri Deputy Commissioner of Police Rana Mukherjee visited Bhakti Nagar Police Station and reviewed the case. He appreciated the prompt action of the police personnel involved in foiling the robbery attempt.

Police said the arrested accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court and remand will be sought for further investigation.
