On the occasion of 50 glorious years of victory over Pakistan in the 1971 War for the Liberation of Bangladesh, the Hilli Brigade of the Indian Army organized a commemoration ceremony at Hilli War Memorial. The ceremony organized on behalf of Trishakti Corps was a befitting tribute to the brave hearts of India and Bangladesh who made the supreme sacrifice for the honor of the nation.

50th ‘Hilli Day’ was jointly celebrated by the Indian Army, BSF, NCC, and the representatives of Zilla Sainik Board of Dakshin Dinajpur district in the presence of veterans and veer naris of the 1971 War. A wreath-laying ceremony was organized at the War Memorial and the veterans and veer naris attending the event were thanked and felicitated for their contribution to the service to the nation.

The Battle of Hilli was fought from 24 November to 11 December 1971 and resulted in the surrender of the 205 Infantry Brigade of the Pakistan Army, thus paving the way for the furtherance of operations. The battle is regarded as one of the most savagely fought battles on the Eastern Front in the 1971 War.
