Gulma Murder Case Update: Police identify deceased, accused arrested

Siliguri, 22nd November: DCP Kunwar Bhushan Singh and ACP Chinmay Mittal held a press conference in Pradhan Nagar Police Station today regarding the Gulma Tea Estate murder case. 


Within less than a week from the incident, the police arrested the alleged ‘Stoneman’, the prime suspect of the Gulma Tea Estate murder case last night.

According to DCP Singh, arrested accused Ganesh Baraik is a resident of the Neech Line area of Ghulam Tea Estate. Meanwhile, the deceased has been identified as Sujan Haldar, a resident of Kumarganj, South Dinajpur. Haldar worked as a daily wage labourer in Milan More area of Siliguri.


Reportedly, Sujan Haldar came to the village intending to steal a goat. In the course, Ganesh Baraik got in a dispute with the man which eventually led to a fight. Ganesh allegedly attacked the man with a stone, killing him on the spot.

It is to be noted, the body of a man with multiple head injuries was found on November 18 afternoon, in the Bansbari area of Section ​​No. 07 in Gulma Tea Estate adjacent to Milan More under Pradhan Nagar police station. Since then, the police registered a case of murder and launched a rigorous investigation into the matter. 

During the investigation, police managed to solve the murder case within five days of the incident. Pradhan Nagar Police, today, produced Ganesh Baraik in Siliguri court and has taken him into a 5-day police remand to further investigate the matter.

ACP Chinmay Mittal further maintained that a case has been registered against Ganesh Baraik under Section 302 of the IPC. Police are investigating the whole matter.
