Goldsmith and craftsmen struggle to make ends meet amid lockdown

Siliguri, 04th May: The COVID-19 crisis has put several goldsmiths in India deeper into poverty as the nationwide lockdown has closed all the jewelry stores during key festivals and wedding season.


Sukamal Das, a goldsmith, stated that he has no source of income for the past 41 days and is living under severe crisis. He further added that the extension of the lockdown has made matters worse.

Another struggler stated that all his savings have been spent and is now running his family expenses on debt.
