Jalpaiguri, 02nd September: Garbage has been piling up along the roadside near Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital for a long time, causing serious problems for patients’ family members and local residents due to the unhygienic conditions and foul smell.
Several shops are located around the medical college and hospital. According to allegations, waste and garbage are regularly dumped along the roadside by these shops. With the garbage remaining there for a long time, even light rain reportedly leaves the area, including the hospital gate, waterlogged.
As a result, patients and their family members face difficulties while travelling through the area. The accumulated garbage is also causing a foul smell and creating an unhygienic environment, residents alleged.
Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul has issued strict instructions to keep roads and footpaths clean. Despite these directives, questions are being raised over why garbage has been allowed to remain piled up for so long near an important facility like the medical college and hospital.
